On September 22, my family and I plan to celebrate International Organic Day. This is a time to honor the
role of organic farming in protecting the environment. The Sky Organics team will join me—and reflect,
together, on the origin story of our Certified B-Corp.

Our Founders’ Story

I remember it clearly. My brother Steven and sister-in-law Sara Jade were new parents, and they wanted
to curate a healthier, more sustainable personal care routine for their growing family. While they’d always
prioritized natural living, they were experiencing a shift.

Certifiably-better products no longer felt like a choice. They’d become a necessity.

But navigating that was easier said than done. Long ingredients lists and false natural claims were the
norm, it turned out. Yet according to Steven and Sara Jade, there had to be a better way to protect the next
generation.

So in 2015, Sky Organics was born. With the company’s launch, our founders said no to greenwashing,
false promises, and synthetic ingredients you can’t pronounce. Instead, they delved deep into the world of
USDA Organic Certification. This distinction is proof that personal care items can be pure, minimally
processed, and effective.

I now have a child of my own too, and as Chief Sustainability Officer, I feel the same pull as Sara Jade
and Steven. In other words, organic certification isn’t just an appealing option for me. It’s become a
requirement. I believe my daughter deserves to live in a world where brands work hard (and
transparently) to improve the health of the planet.

With that, I want to spread the word that organic certification matters. And I want to emphasize that all of
our products here at Sky Organics are thoughtfully curated to complement your clean beauty routine.

They’re also formulated with as few ingredients as possible. In fact, some of our customers’ favorite
items are made with a single Certified Organic ingredient. Often, that’s all it takes for the skin or hair to
benefit. And this International Organic Day, that level of intentionality is paramount. It brings us not only
back to our roots, but toward a better future.

A Commitment to Organic Certification

Organic is the cleanest form of natural—but what does that actually mean?

We use Certified Organic ingredients whenever possible due to the fact that they are:

01

Grown sustainably and thoughtfully, without harmful pesticides

02

Harvested and blended without questionable chemicals or synthetic fillers

03

Able to maintain their natural purity, integrity, and potency

On occasion we include a non-organic ingredient due to material limitations (especially with products
featuring minerals, clays, and salts). This, however, is always a mindful decision based on the overall
beauty benefit. In these cases, we also communicate our choice on the product label, and we stay
committed to using pure and potent ingredients sourced from nature.

The Impact of Organic on the Planet

The USDA’s organic regulations claim the benefits of organic agriculture are massive. We’re in complete
alignment. These are just some of the environmental benefits of organic:

Ecological balance

Certified Organic farming practices work in harmony with natural ecosystems. Synthetic fertilizers can
disrupt local flora and fauna, while organic alternatives lead to better soil health and fewer pest outbreaks.
(It may sound counterintuitive, but a healthy ecosystem without pesticides can actually keep pests at bay.)
And healthy soil isn’t only better for plants and animals—it’s also more resilient to erosion and drought.

Energy and water conservation

Organic growing methods use 45% less energy than conventional farming techniques on average. They
also require less heavy machinery—and organic practices like mulching and cover cropping enhance the
soil’s ability to hold water. By reducing the need for irrigation in this way, we can better conserve water
too. And water, as we all know, is the Earth’s most precious resource.

A safer home for all living creatures

Organic farms give wildlife like birds and insects a safer place to live. Without harmful chemicals, these
creatures are far less likely to suffer from poisoning or habitat destruction. Meanwhile, bees and
butterflies thrive in organic systems—contributing to pollination and ecological health in general. And
believe it or not, Certified Organic practices are better for human beings too.

This brings us back to International Organic Day: a celebration of the clean beauty movement. This
holiday is also an opportunity to recognize the impact of organic certification on our planet—and on
future generations. Ending this blog on a personal note, my hope is that today’s kids can grow up in a
world where certifiably-better choices are the norm. Will you join me in making that happen?
